"You are to be commended for your sensitivity and caring. You performed a service far beyond... in doing so, provided an atmosphere calmed of the tensions which accompanied so many of those for whom the weekend was an emotion-charged experience. Your service was invaluable."
--Deputy Director National Salute to Vietnam Veterans (Dedication of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial  "The Wall" November 1982)

"In this place of honor, to what is best of man. I found a crying Mother with flowers in her hands......The price we pay for freedom son, is the highest price of all. The price we pay for freedom son, is written on
The Wall."

Words from Britt's hit song and music video "The Wall".
Lyrics written by Lyle Zoerb, music written by Britt Small & Ray Roth.  DVD available on Britt's Music Store  page. Song available on several Britt Small recordings.)

The Association, along with our partners in bringing The Moving Wall to Warren, would like to extend our sincere appreciation to you for coming to little Rhode Island for The Wall.  As one of our committee members said at our very first meeting, "You can't have The Wall without Britt Small."  --Dave McCarthy, Moving Wall Committee, Warren Association of Vietnam Veterans

I was at the Wall in Gardner, Mass. My husband was killed in Vietnam and his name was never placed on the memorial in the town of Gardner. I was finally able to put it there when the Wall came to town and Britt was singing. How emotional!!! After 33 years, Ron came home to the sound of Britt Small. --K. Blamire, Gardner MA

On behalf of the entire Vietnam Moving Wall Committee, please accept our deepest thanks for the great performance you gave at our recent display of the "Moving Wall". The success of your performance came as no surprise to us, as our relationship began some many months before, when you contacted me offering to perform for us when the "Wall" was on display in our community. You folks were so easy to work out the details with. Over the years I, personally have been involved in scheduling many events in the City of Gardner ranging from parades, fireworks, concerts, Bicentennial events etc. and I must admit that your organization ranks as the easiest and most professional that I have ever had the opportunity to work with. Your willingness to be flexible with your schedule during the rain event we had on the day of the concert, certainly made our job much easier when deciding to have the concert inside or outside, or to postpone the concert to the following day. Your cooperation in the decision-making was greatly appreciated by our committee, as it was something that you didn't have to do, as there was no provision in the contract to cover a situation such as this. You were only interested in the success of our event. And for that we are truly grateful. Without a doubt, the overall success of our display of the "Wall" was indisputably enhanced by your concert of patriotic and Vietnam related songs. Many vets have come to me with comments about how approachable Britt is and how much compassion he shows when talking with other vets. All I can add is that I hope other communities take advantage of Britt's commitment towards veterans and should they have the opportunity to be offered a date for a concert, that they grab it. The veterans in their community will gratefully appreciate it. ---Mayor Dan Kelley, Gardner, MA Co-Chairman Vietnam Moving Wall Committee 2003

"He has a place in so many hearts that the stars of Nashville will never know, no movie actor will ever find, and no playwright can fathom. Our lives are most often judged by the friends we have, the lives we have touched, and the difference we made. By these standards, BRITT SMALL, is the richest man in the world." --Vietnam Veteran, Pennsylvania

"Your program shows that America still remembers and honors it's veterans. In an era when violence makes the news in our schools and business places, you remind us that America is still the greatest of all countries." --Korean Veteran, 21st AAA Bn

"It is not often that a talented person relates through his artistry feelings long hid away by a generation from youth to maturity, whether they be pride, elation, or grief. And that comes to Britt Small and what he means to us, Vietnam Veterans of America, James L. Huard Chapter 267 of Dearborn, Michigan. On numerous occasions at hospitals and events such as our sponsorship of the Moving Wall, Britt has given substance to events in our lives and how they made us better Americans. So it is with great pleasure that we extend our endorsement of Britt Small to whoever wants to walk away a proud American. Thank you for this opportunity to facilitate his message of reconciliation and pride." --President VVA Chapter 267

"I saw you perform at the Moving Wall. This was the first time for me to here you talk and sing. I have seen other big name singers in person, none could compare to that night you sang at The Wall. Thanks for inspiring all us "vets" with your songs." --Vietnam Veteran, Illinois

"I saw you at the Moving Wall in Bloomington. How moving your show was to me. It is people like you that keep the pride alive; open the eyes of the young to the reality that Freedom Is Not Free and to never take if for granted." --non veteran, Farmer City, IL

What students think:

"Mr. Small.  When you came out on stage, I didn't know what to think. But you started singing America The Beautiful and for the first time, I really paid attention to the words.  Then when you started telling the boys, especially the football team, that when our country calls to defend our freedom, they were the "meat" and would be the first to go, I started to think. Then when you said to the girls, "Ladies all things being equal", it made me laugh, but now after what happened to Jessica Lynch, I'm no longer laughing. Thank you for opening my (our) eyes."  Sarah, Senior Class, North Attleboro, MA

"I looked and saw hundred of soldiers names engraved on the Wall. Then something clicked, these people died for my relatives, my friends, and myself. I’d like to tell them thank you and the country of the United States misses them."

"We finally understand the consequences of the people that fought in war."

"I realized now how important is really is to know about war and the country we live in."

"When the man was talking about what happened to the men in the war, I tried to put myself in their shoes, to see how they felt."

"Listening to BRITT made me realize how much we lose in war, and not to take our family and friends for granted because with this war we are in now, we never know what tomorrow may bring."

"I went to the Wall. I touched the Wall. I felt someone touching me back."

"It made me realize that this happened to young people like myself."

"It is an honor and a privilege to have viewed and touched The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall that represents the courage, valor, and bravery of those who marched off to unknown land to defend and protect our precious liberty. Those Americans honored here are from all walks of life that had hopes and thoughts of a future, but when called to duty, went, never to return home. The endless names etched in stone are a vivid reminder of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I found myself trying to put a face on a name, cringing when I thought of them dying young. It is a cold, windy day as I pause, reflect, and try to absorb the enormity of what these brave soldiers endured and gave up. Freedom carries a high price."

"I really enjoyed the guest speakers, especially the Paratrooper and Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. They are very inspiring and I believe that they will help influence today's generation."

"While I was there, I picked a name from the Wall that I will remember always. That person fought to allow me to be free."

"I thank you sincerely for helping my generation see all the faces of the Vietnam War. The debts these American's paid are great, but their spirit is greater still."

"You showed me that you are history, you are the ones who made it all. The next time I have the chance to meet a veteran, I think I will either hug him or salute him and say thank you very much."
